The Red Sea project is one the most visionary projects in the world for luxury tourism. It is wholly owned by the Public Investment Fund (PIF) of the Government of Saudi Arabia.
The project aims to develop some of the most beautiful hospitality assets in the world. The development model is based on environmental sustainability, people centered planning and development, and exemplary corporate governance. What started as a resort development project in 2017 has now evolved into a multi project, multi company mega project under the Red Sea Global (RSG). This mega project is the brain child of His Royal Highness Mohammed Bin Salman, Crown Prince and Prime Minister of Saudi Arabia.
His vision for a uniquely beautiful and amazing destination where Saudi Arabia’s traditional hospitality and kindness will be experienced by all visitors to the many hotels in this project. https://www.redseaglobal.com/en/
Former President Waheed began his association with the project from its inception. He was a member of the Founding Board and later the Board of Directors of the Red Sea Development Company.
He currently serves as a member of the RSG Advisory Board.
His experience of guiding and supporting tourism sector development policies, thus enabling the private sector development of high-end resorts in the Maldives, is very valuable to the RSG.
The concept of one island one resort in the Maldives was useful for some of the smaller islands in the Red Sea. These island resorts will resemble Maldives high end resorts and at the same time use some of the lessons learned. The Red Sea resorts have consciously avoided loss of privacy due to too close proximity of rooms and unlike Maldives adopted a policy of dark skies for all the Red Sea resorts.
The Red Sea Islands, with their turquoise lagoons and white sandy beaches off the coast of Saudi Arabia, are emerging as some of the most beautiful and pristine locations in the world. The natural mangroves in some of the bigger islands have presented a great opportunity to protect and further enrich the unique environment of the Arabian islands.
In an effort to promote greater environmental protection and prevent soil erosion, the project has developed one of the largest and most technologically advanced plant nurseries in the world.
With over 6 million trees, it is the biggest source of green cover for the islands and the Saudi Greening Project. The RSG Chairman and the members of the board have always put emphasis on environmental protection, enhancement and sustainability.
